Nintendo Switch 2 users have reported that the controller vibration feature automatically disables when the console detects prolonged use of the rumble function.
Since the Switch 2’s launch earlier this month, users have begun seeing a notification on screen: “Rumble has been turned off due to prolonged use,” followed by a temporary loss of vibration functionality.
“I first started seeing this message after about an hour and a half of handheld play,” one user posted on Reddit. “Now it appears within the first 20 minutes. Am I the only one?”
Switch 2 owners say they’ve encountered rumble issues while playing various games, including intense vibration sequences in Cyberpunk 2077—such as when firing the minigun—and during cutscenes in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on Nintendo GameCube.A Reddit thread tracking the problem also lists other titles where the issue occurs. “It happened during the final boss of Sonic Generations,” shared one frustrated player. “I’ve seen it multiple times while playing Fast Fusion,” added another.
Nintendo has not yet commented on the warning, but many users suspect it’s a power-saving feature designed to reduce Joy-Con battery drain. After all, vibration consumes additional power, and while disabling it outright may seem extreme, it helps prevent the controllers from depleting their charge too quickly.

For now, affected users say the only way to stop the recurring notification is to fully turn off controller rumble in the Switch’s settings. Some, however, report the restriction was temporary—vibration functionality returned after just a few minutes.
