Yukiko's Castle serves as the first major dungeon in Persona 4 Golden. Despite its brevity (seven floors), it provides a crucial learning experience, gradually introducing players to the game's mechanics and combat.
While the initial floors present minimal difficulty, later levels introduce the Magical Magus, a formidable random encounter. This guide details its weaknesses and effective strategies for defeating it.
Magical Magus Weakness & Skills in Persona 4 Golden
Null | Strong | Weak |

Fire | Wind | Light |
The Magical Magus utilizes potent skills, primarily fire-based attacks. Equipping fire-resistant accessories (found in golden chests within Yukiko's Castle) is highly recommended. These accessories also prove beneficial in the final boss battle.
When the Magical Magus begins charging magic, guard on your next turn. It frequently employs Agilao, a powerful fire spell capable of eliminating unprepared party members. While Hysterical Slap inflicts significant physical damage (two hits), Agilao poses the greater threat. Strategically, it's advisable for Chie and Yosuke to focus on guarding, minimizing their risk, while the protagonist, with access to early light skills, takes the offensive.
Early-Game Persona with a Light Skill in Persona 4 Golden
Archangel is the optimal early-game Persona possessing a light skill, Hama. Archangel also learns Media at level 12, a valuable healing skill for the final boss fight. A level 11 Persona, Archangel can be fused using:
- Slime (Level 2)
- Forneus (Level 6)
In Persona 4 Golden, light and dark skills function as instant-kill attacks when exploiting an enemy's weakness. Hama's near-guaranteed success makes the Magical Magus surprisingly easy to defeat. Given Archangel's high level, farming the Magical Magus can be advantageous, provided you have sufficient SP recovery items or are prepared for a potentially under-leveled boss fight.
