Capcom has given us our first glimpse of Resident Evil Requiem gameplay through brief clips shown during a livestream event.
At the Capcom Spotlight, the company unveiled a short segment of first-person gameplay, packed with horror elements and introducing new protagonist FBI Agent Grace Ashcroft. In the footage, the character cautiously navigates eerie hallways, illuminated only by a flickering lighter. At one moment, Ashcroft turns to find a massive humanoid creature emerging from the darkness behind her.
Another first-person clip shows Ashcroft exploring a vast, ornate corridor, this time armed with a handgun (reflecting her FBI training and proficiency with firearms). Her ability to "think calmly and use deductive reasoning" is showcased when she examines a toolbox using Resident Evil's signature close-up inspection method.
Finally, we get a very brief look at third-person gameplay, with Ashcroft once again making her way through dimly lit rooms and unsettling corridors. The same terrifying creature appears, this time stomping casually in the shadows.
In the presentation, Capcom developers explained how the first-person viewpoint creates "tense, realistic gameplay," while the over-the-shoulder third-person perspective allows players to "take in more of the action." The third-person mode is described as "ideal for players who prefer action-oriented gameplay."
Resident Evil Requiem allows seamless switching between first- and third-person views at any time via the Options menu. For additional insights, check out IGN’s hands-on Resident Evil Requiem preview.

Capcom also confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem is set 30 years after the missile strike on Raccoon City at the conclusion of Resident Evil 3, a detail that explains the massive crater seen in the announcement trailer. The title "Requiem" was selected because, according to Capcom, "This game is a requiem, a tribute to those who came before."
Despite fan anticipation, there was no reveal of Leon Kennedy as a playable character. If the Resident Evil veteran does make an appearance, that reveal may come at a later date. It is worth noting that Capcom developers shared some intriguing comments about Leon's connection to Resident Evil Requiem, which we explore here.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. For more details, explore all the announcements from Capcom Spotlight 2025.
