Max has unveiled an exciting new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, which intensifies the ties to the Superman narrative by introducing Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner right from the outset. The trailer opens with Sean Gunn portraying Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl. They are seen interviewing John Cena's Peacemaker for a potential spot on a superhero team. The interview, marked by dismissive attitudes, does not go smoothly, leaving Peacemaker visibly frustrated as he exits the building.
These scenes offer new glimpses of supporting characters who will also appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman film. The trailer's tagline, "Achieving peace is a team effort," sets the stage for the season, which is set to premiere on August 21 on Max.
Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the Superman movie, scheduled for release on July 11, marking it as the third installment in the newly established DCU. This cinematic universe, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, diverges from the criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements will carry over, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the now-defunct DCEU, Season 2 will be integrated into the new DCU.
James Gunn has mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although it's still uncertain which aspects will transition from the old to the new universe. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return with the same cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn has stated that the events of Peacemaker Season 2 will occur after those of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's storyline directly impacting Peacemaker's narrative.
