Now, after nearly three years of anticipation, we have a wealth of new information.
Silent Hill f: Finding Beauty in Terror
Konami revealed a new trailer and details emphasizing the game's aim to "find the beauty in terror," presenting players with a captivating yet terrifying choice within the backdrop of 1960s Japan. While the nature of this pivotal decision remains undisclosed, the story unfolds around Shimizu Hinkao, an ordinary teenager whose life is irrevocably altered when her town is consumed by fog and horrific transformations. Hinkao must navigate this unrecognizable landscape, solving puzzles, battling strange enemies, and ultimately confronting a profound choice. This is a tale of a beautiful, yet terrifying decision. This original story offers a perfect entry point for newcomers, while seasoned players will discover rewarding Easter eggs. The game is set in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by the real-world location of Kanayama, Gero, in Gifu Prefecture.
A Unique Vision of Horror
Creature and character designer kera shared their creative process, highlighting the challenge of crafting a distinctly Japanese Silent Hill experience while honoring the series' legacy: "I love the Silent Hill series, and it's been a big influence on me. In particular, I am constantly remembering Silent Hill 2, and the messages on the walls, the music, and the monster designs. So, when it came to Silent Hill f, and bringing the setting to Japan, we had to come up with something that felt just a little different, and I had to really think about how to get that feeling. The monster designs were the hardest. I had to consider everything that's come in Silent Hill before, and figure out how to take this game in a different direction, but still be Silent Hill. It might not be the exact same blood-smeared, rusting scenery, but I sincerely hope you'll enjoy our vision and the world we've created."A Symphony of Fear
The music of Silent Hill f will be a crucial element, with veteran Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage (known for his work on the Dynasty Warriors series) contributing scores for the Fog World and Otherworld respectively. Inage describes his composition as "an unsettling yet beautiful world that uses imagery from shrines, blending ancient Japanese court music with ambient echoes. I wove in various techniques that will connect the player to the protagonist's agony, internal conflict, fear, and other emotions."
While a release date remains unannounced, Silent Hill f is confirmed for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
