IGN has exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong. The much-anticipated game from Team Cherry, which has consistently topped Steam's wishlist chart, will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the game, which has been in development for years and is set to release within the 2025 window.
As part of the Game Worlds exhibition, Silksong will not only be playable but will also feature displays that explore the game's intricate design and artistic direction. This exhibition promises to give visitors a deep dive into the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind the game’s challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement about featuring Silksong as a centerpiece of the exhibition. "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September," they stated. They also highlighted the detailed displays that will showcase the game's artistic direction and design, expressing gratitude to Team Cherry for their collaboration.
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several design elements that will be on display. This image, provided to IGN with permission, offers a glimpse into the game's visual intricacies.
With Silksong set to be playable at ACMI from September 18, fans are speculating that the game might launch before this date, possibly in August. The anticipation continues to build, especially after Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, confirming the 2025 release window and offering a fleeting glimpse of new gameplay.
Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent versions planned for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of numerous teases over the years. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hopes among fans for a re-reveal in April. As the release date approaches, the excitement and speculation around Hollow Knight: Silksong continue to grow.
