The fervor began with a tweet from William Pellen, one of the game's creators, on January 15th, 2025. His message, "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow," hinted at the leaked Switch 2 reveal on January 16th. The usual queries about Silksong's release followed, but Pellen's subsequent actions ignited a firestorm of speculation.

On January 16th, 2025, the Switch 2 announcement included a reveal of an upcoming Direct on April 2nd, 2025. A keen-eyed fan noticed Pellen had changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search traced the image to a Bon Appetit article featuring a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe, published on April 2nd, 2024.

Pellen also commented on the article with "mmmm tasty," prompting dedicated fans to scrutinize the cake-related comments. One fan even declared, "if we get real silksong news by April 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake," while another playfully commented, "Loved the silky texture. This goes directly in my favourite recipes," cleverly linking the game and Nintendo's upcoming Direct.

Hollow Knight: Silksong's Long-Awaited Arrival

Initially announced on February 14th, 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This sequel follows Hornet's adventures in a new kingdom.

Following a soundtrack preview in December 2019, the development team went largely silent for over two years. They resurfaced in February 2022, with Pellen assuring fans of ongoing development and promising updates closer to release. A June 2022 trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase offered new gameplay and confirmed a Game Pass launch.

While initially anticipated for the first half of 2023, a May 2023 announcement from Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin confirmed a delay. He explained, "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing...We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."
