Spectre Divide has swiftly responded to player feedback by announcing significant price adjustments on the skins and bundles in their newly launched online FPS game, just hours after its release. Dive into the details of this unexpected move by Mountaintop Studios.
Spectre Divide Lowers Skin Prices Hours After Launch and Player Backlash
30% SP Refund for Select Players
In a surprising move, Spectre Divide developer Mountaintop Studios has announced a reduction in store prices and addressed player concerns regarding the high costs of skins and bundles. Game director Lee Horn revealed that the prices of in-game weapons and character skins have been slashed by 17-25%, depending on the item. This decision was made mere hours after the game's launch, in response to widespread backlash over the pricing.
"We've heard your feedback and we're making changes," the studio stated. "Weapons & Outfits will be permanently decreasing in price by 17-25%. Players who purchased store items before the change will get a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." This action was prompted by players expressing frustration over the pricing model, particularly with the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle, which initially cost around $85 (9,000 SP), a price many felt was too steep for a free-to-play game.
Mountaintop Studios has committed to providing a 30% SP refund to players who made purchases prior to the price reduction, with refunds rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. However, prices for the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will remain unchanged. "These packs will not have any adjustments. Anyone who purchased the Founder's pack / Supporter pack, and purchased the items above will get the extra SP added to their account as well," the studio explained.

While some players have expressed gratitude for the price adjustments, reactions remain mixed. At the time of writing, Spectre Divide's Steam rating stands at 49% Negative, reflecting the ongoing backlash that included review bombing. On social media, one player commented, "Def not enough but it’s a start! And it’s great that you’re at least listening to players feedback." Another suggested further enhancements, stating, "I wish we could buy individual items from packs like hairstyles or accessories! You’d probably get more money from me tbh!"
However, skepticism persists among some players. One fan voiced disappointment over the timing of the price change, saying, "You needed to do that beforehand, not when people are upset about it and then you change it. If you keep on going in this direction then I don’t think this game will last any longer. Cause in future you will get heavy competition from other f2p games too."
