Smite 2 is gearing up to launch its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025, ushering in a new era for the third-person action MOBA. Following its Alpha stage in 2024, Smite 2 is set to deliver an array of new modes, Gods, Aspects, and much more, inviting even more players into the next generation of Smite.

As a sequel to the 2014 free-to-play MOBA Smite, Smite 2, unveiled nearly a decade after its predecessor, promises a completely overhauled experience built on Unreal Engine 5. Like the original, Smite 2 allows players to embody various legendary figures and Gods from diverse pantheons, ranging from Greek mythology to traditional Japanese deities. Since its Alpha launch in September, players have had access to 14 Gods, with the roster expected to expand to nearly 50 by the end of January 2025. Recent announcements have shed light on what players can anticipate, including more than just new characters.

The developers of Smite 2 have confirmed that the game's free-to-play open beta will commence on January 14, 2025, offering players a chance to explore how the sequel diverges from the original. Alongside this announcement, Aladdin, the inaugural God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, will be introduced on the same day, enhancing Smite 2's already diverse lineup. Aladdin, functioning as a Magical Assassin and Jungler, can run on walls and trap enemies in his lamp. Fans will also see the return of beloved characters from the original Smite, such as Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni, though with updated skillsets.

When Does the Smite 2 F2P Open Beta Begin?

A new 3v3 game mode, Joust, has been unveiled for the open beta. Set in an Arthurian-themed area, players can navigate the map using Teleporters and utilize Stealth Grass for surprise attacks. The same map will also host Duel, a new 1v1 mode. Additionally, the Aspects feature will add a new layer to gameplay, allowing players to trade certain abilities of their God's build for powerful boons. For instance, with Aspects enabled, Athena can't teleport to an ally to shield them but can teleport to enemies to weaken them. During the open beta, 20 of Smite 2's 45 dynamic Gods will have Aspects, with more to be added later.

Smite 2 is also introducing numerous quality-of-life enhancements, including Role Guides, helpful tips for new players, PC text chat, improved item store, death recaps, and more. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale is slated for January 17-19 at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas, spotlighting this new MOBA. Smite 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
