Sony launched its June 2025 State of Play event with a surprise reveal: Lumines Arise, a new title from Tetris Effect creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi.
The game arrives Fall 2025 for PlayStation 5 and PS VR2, with a playable demo coming this summer. Check out the debut trailer below:
In a PlayStation Blog post, Enhance Director Takashi Ishihara described Lumines Arise as a full-fledged successor to the iconic PSP puzzle series, now redesigned with optional PS VR2 support.
"Lumines Arise isn't just another puzzle game—we're crafting emotional experiences," Ishihara explained. "The PS5 version with PS VR2 compatibility aims to resonate deeply with players."
"The journey begins in darkness, as shown briefly in today's trailer. Across 30+ stages, each environment—from thriving jungles to Tokyo's neon streets—triggers unique emotional responses through synesthetic visuals."
"At its core lies deceptively simple gameplay: rotate and position 2×2 colored blocks to create matching squares. The Timeline sweeps rhythmically across the playfield, clearing completed patterns while music drives the action. This creates rhythmic pressure to build combos through increasingly complex formations."
"Players chase combos while syncing with the Timeline's pulse, feeling DualSense vibrations as music envelops them. When everything clicks, backgrounds come alive and the real world fades—your breathing slows while adrenaline takes over."
