Fans eagerly awaiting the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will need to exercise patience, as star Jharrel Jerome has confirmed that production on the third installment hasn't even started yet. In a recent interview with Decider, Jerome revealed, "No, I wish," when asked about the progress of the film, adding that "a lot of things are being figured out" behind the scenes. This news comes as no surprise to many, considering the five-year gap between the first film and the sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which hit theaters in 2023.
Jerome, who plays a pivotal role as Miles G. Morales from Earth-42 in Across the Spider-Verse, is set to become the main antagonist in the upcoming film. In a surprising twist at the end of the second movie, his character emerges not as Spider-Man but as the Prowler. This alternate version of Miles did not become Spider-Man due to a fateful shift of the radioactive spider to the main Miles' universe. As a result, after his universe's Peter Parker's death, New York fell under the control of supervillains, and Miles G. Morales joined their ranks.
The narrative of how this darker Miles Morales will interact with the main Miles, who embraced his role as Spider-Man, is expected to unfold in Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans may have to wait until at least 2026 for the film's release, according to Deadline. If the series follows the precedent set by the previous film's release schedule, viewers might not see the conclusion until 2028.
