Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with a major update, version 2.0, set to launch on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to achieve the level of popularity that Supercell had hoped for. With this significant overhaul, the developers are aiming to revitalize the game and attract a larger player base.
This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two
Squad Busters 2.0 represents more than just minor adjustments; it's a complete reboot of the game. The core mechanics, from battles to victory conditions, are being transformed to offer a fresh experience.
One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad, and the game's outcome hinges on this character. If your Hero falls, the match is over. This adds a strategic layer to the gameplay, as choosing the right Hero becomes crucial.
Combat mechanics have also been revamped. Previously, players had to stop moving to engage in combat, but now, movement and combat are seamlessly integrated. This change promises more dynamic and intense battles, making the gameplay feel more fluid and engaging.
The way victories are achieved is changing as well. Instead of needing to eliminate all opponents, players now only need to defeat the enemy Hero. While some fans worry that this shift makes the game feel too similar to Brawl Stars, it's clear Supercell is aiming for a more focused and intense gameplay experience.
Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features
To make room for these new elements, several old features are being removed. Modes such as Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder will no longer be available. Additionally, some skins and progression systems are being phased out. Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items to smooth the transition.

The rapid changes reflect Supercell's urgency to boost Squad Busters' popularity. As the game's first anniversary approaches on May 29th, the developers are pulling out all the stops to reignite player interest. To celebrate, daily piñata events are planned, offering players a chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
