Many choices in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl significantly impact your experience. The mission preceding "Just Like the Good Old Days" varies depending on your choice in "Wishful Thinking." This mission begins after completing either "To the Last Drop of Blood" or "Law and Order," both concluding with an escape from the SIRCAA.
Talk to Professor Lodochka at Wild Island
First, head to the mission marker on Wild Island to find Professor Lodochka at Quite's Camp. Upon arrival, a higher priority objective emerges: eliminating mercenaries in the area. These enemies are clearly marked, so no need to search. Equip yourself well, as this isn't the only encounter you'll face. Eliminate all mercenaries to proceed to Lodochka's location, triggering an optional objective: Activating the Ventilation System.
Activate the Ventilation System
To complete this optional objective, consult your map. Locate the marked fuse, then follow the marker north to the engineering rooms. Be prepared for an invisible enemy within.
Proceed through the shelter and passageways to the Engine Room. Use the fuse to restore power to the Ventilation System, paving the way for mission progression. While this optional objective doesn't offer unique rewards, it simplifies the remaining mission.
Find the Source of the Signal
Consider upgrading your weaponry before proceeding, as the challenge increases. Head to the marked location, finding a cave entrance near the water. Navigate the caverns westward, descending and overcoming various obstacles. Utilize a broken pipe to reach higher cave levels.
Locate the large cone-shaped spire; the Emitter is found at the marked point beside it. An invisible enemy awaits on your return journey. Finally, return to Lodochka to complete the mission and unlock "Hornet's Nest."
