Author : Lily Apr 11,2025

LEGO's foray into video games began nearly 31 years ago with LEGO Fun to Build on the SEGA Pico. Since then, the colorful Danish bricks and their iconic minifigures have evolved into a distinctive gaming genre, largely thanks to Traveler’s Tales’ engaging action-platforming and their creative adaptations of numerous pop-culture franchises.

Narrowing down the selection was challenging, but we've compiled our Top 10 LEGO games of all time. And don't forget to explore LEGO Fortnite, which has recently become available.

  1. LEGO Island

No list of the best LEGO games would be complete without mentioning the pioneering 1997 PC adventure, LEGO Island. Though it may seem basic by today's standards and graphically rough compared to newer titles, LEGO Island remains a delightful and nostalgic experience. Players must thwart an escaped convict intent on dismantling LEGO Island brick by brick.

The game's multiple character classes and innovative open-world design provide a comfortable yet engaging experience. Although it might be difficult to find, LEGO Island is definitely worth revisiting—just be on the lookout for the mischievous Brickster.

  1. LEGO The Lord of the Rings

LEGO The Lord of the Rings stands out for its unique approach, using audio directly from the movies rather than new voice recordings. This choice adds a fresh, humorous twist to iconic scenes, such as Boromir's emotional death scene, which becomes comically poignant when surrounded by flying bananas. The game is packed with Easter eggs, like the achievement for performing an Assassin's Creed-style leap of faith, and includes book characters like Tom Bombadil not seen in the films. Combined with the typical LEGO game puzzles and action, LEGO The Lord of the Rings offers a delightful and engaging experience.

  1. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures masterfully transforms the not-so-family-friendly Indiana Jones trilogy into a playful LEGO adventure that remains true to its source material. The game covers the events of the first three films with a humorous twist on some of the more mature scenes.

With improved gameplay mechanics from earlier LEGO Star Wars titles, this game emphasizes puzzle-solving and exploration over combat. Its local co-op mode remains a joy to play, and even 15 years later, LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures holds up remarkably well, earning its place as a modern classic.

  1. LEGO DC Super-Villains

LEGO games are celebrated for their ability to reimagine darker themes in a family-friendly manner while preserving the essence of the original content. LEGO DC Super-Villains breaks the mold by allowing players to step into the shoes of the villains, a rare and bold move that showcases the LEGO games' unique charm and TT Games' skillful execution.

The game integrates a custom character into its narrative, echoing the creativity inherent in playing with LEGO toys. This feature, alongside the endearing portrayal of DC's rogues, makes LEGO DC Super-Villains a standout title.

  1. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes introduced the open-world concept to TT Games, setting players free in the expansive Gotham City. While later LEGO games refined this feature, the charm of navigating Batman's iconic city in LEGO form remains unmatched. As a significant improvement over its predecessor, LEGO Batman 2 is the pinnacle of the LEGO Batman series, offering a vast roster of characters from the DC universe.

With countless areas to explore, numerous collectibles, and the quintessential LEGO humor, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes stands as not only one of the best LEGO games but also one of the finest Batman games available.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 set a high bar with its meticulous attention to detail, closely following the books and films. The game offers a fresh perspective on the magical world, allowing players to explore secret passageways, detailed common rooms, and even engage in broomstick flying and Quidditch matches.

The sequel, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, expands the adventure to new locations such as Zonko’s Joke Shop and Godric’s Hollow. With stunning graphics, rewarding exploration, and classic LEGO gameplay, the LEGO Harry Potter series is a comprehensive and enchanting journey through the wizarding world.

  1. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

LEGO Star Wars was the pioneering pop-culture property to be transformed into LEGO form, attracting new fans and collectors. Released during the marketing blitz for Revenge of the Sith, it could have been a mere cash-in, but instead, Traveler’s Tales infused it with engaging puzzle-platforming, collectibles, and humor.

The sequel, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, continued this momentum, appealing to fans of the original films. Combined into LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, these games laid the foundation for the LEGO gaming genre.

  1. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Rather than simply rehash previous content, Traveler’s Tales completely revamped LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. This includes overhauls in combat, camera, overworld structure, and every level, character, and vehicle. The game offers an immense array of activities and collectibles, appealing to both casual and die-hard Star Wars fans.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga covers all the mainline films and incorporates references from spinoffs and TV shows, making it a comprehensive and action-packed addition to the LEGO game series.

  1. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes leverages the vast Marvel Universe to create a game filled with iconic characters and locations. The game's diverse roster and their unique powers provide a variety of gameplay mechanics, allowing players to explore Asgard, Asteroid M, and more, all while navigating a detailed New York City hub.

The game stands out for bringing together characters from across the Marvel Universe, a feat not easily accomplished due to licensing complexities at the time. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes captures the essence of Marvel Comics with TT Games' humor and attention to detail, even including elements not yet available as physical LEGO sets.

While subsequent Marvel LEGO games stayed closer to the MCU or faced character limitations, the original LEGO Marvel Super Heroes set a high standard that didn't necessarily need a sequel. Its playful and imaginative approach, such as racing with Doctor Doom and Venom on circus animals, remains unmatched.
