AHOY Comics made a splash in 2024 by bringing back the cult classic hero, The Toxic Crusader, in comic book form. This year, they’re celebrating the highly anticipated "Toxic Mess Summer," where Toxie teams up with the iconic characters from the AHOY Universe—including Jesus Christ himself.
"Toxic Mess Summer" begins in May with the launch of The Toxic Avenger Pinup Special, showcasing diverse artistic interpretations of Toxie and his friends. Following this, AHOY will release the exciting miniseries, Toxie Team-Up. In this series, Toxie pairs up with notable heroes such as Jersey Devil from Project: Cryptid, Acid Chimp from My Bad, Dragonflyman and Stinger from The Wrong Earth, Swamp Cop and Schitt from Justice Warriors, and yes, Jesus Christ from Second Coming.

For those unfamiliar with Second Coming, the series revolves around Jesus returning to Earth to live with a superhero named Sunstar. Since its debut, the series has garnered significant attention, sparking both praise and debate. The collaboration between Jesus and Toxie promises to continue this trend.
Toxie Team-Up #1 is crafted by the talented duo behind Second Coming: writer Mark Russell and artist Richard Pace. Russell expressed his excitement in Ahoy's press release, stating, “Toxic Avenger and Jesus Christ—the team-up everyone has been dreaming of. Just like in Second Coming, Christ demonstrates that there are more ways to solve problems than through violence, proving that Tromaville is a place even someone bullied in ancient Rome could relate to.”
Peyer, AHOY Comics’ Editor-in-Chief, highlighted Toxie’s enduring popularity, saying, “Already the star of five films, a cartoon, action figures, a musical, and a Marvel comic book series, Toxie is truly a pop culture icon. The real question is, why hasn’t he inspired his own religion yet?”

The Toxic Avenger Pinup Special hits shelves on May 14, while Toxie Team-Up #1 releases on June 11. Additionally, Matt Bors and Fred Harper’s The Toxic Avenger miniseries will be compiled into a trade paperback edition available starting April 1. Preorders for The Toxic Avenger are available on Amazon.
Meanwhile, Toxie fans can look forward to another cinematic adventure in 2025. IGN’s Amelia Emberwing reviewed The Toxic Avenger, noting, “Troma and Legendary’s 2023 ‘not remake’ delivers a mixed bag. While the production boasts greater resources than the 1984 original, it struggles to match the campy charm of Troma’s best works. However, its heartfelt moments and practical effects shine. Kevin Bacon and Peter Dinklage’s performances add extra flair.”
Get ready for an unforgettable summer with Toxie and his extraordinary allies!
