The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, now taking place in Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, according to a report by Insider Gaming. Originally known under the codename Project Maverick, the game was initially envisioned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, following an internal review and despite positive feedback from employees and testers, Ubisoft's management decided to redirect most of the resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7). The final blow to the multiplayer component was the reassignment of the technical team to other projects.
The responsibility for this rebooted project has been transferred to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its development support. Almost the entire original development team has now been reassigned to focus on the next installment of the Far Cry series.

According to insider Tom Henderson's report from mid-December 2024, Far Cry 7 aims to immerse players in a gripping atmosphere of tension and desperation, where time becomes the main adversary. The narrative will center on the protagonist's mission to rescue their family, kidnapped by a mysterious conspiracy cult. This cult is conducting horrifying experiments involving hallucinogens on animals and children. Players must race against time to save their loved ones within a strict 72 in-game hour limit, which translates to 24 real-time hours. This time constraint is a pivotal gameplay element, adding urgency and intensity to the experience.
A unique feature of Far Cry 7 will be a timer displayed on the protagonist's wristwatch, constantly reminding players of the ticking clock. This mechanic will not only amplify the sense of urgency but also apply additional pressure, compelling players to make rapid and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 promises to offer a distinctive gaming experience where every second is critical, and every choice can have significant consequences.
