How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria
Screenshot by The Escapist
To romance Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Once you complete the offering, a cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or risk being sealed with the Scroll. As your health diminishes, Caldarus intervenes, transforming into his human form, granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell, and retreating to the Deep Woods.
In his human form, you can interact with Caldarus daily, giving him gifts and engaging in conversations similar to those with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can be found exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to permanently unlock this area on your map.
Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking Caldarus as a romanceable character with the March 2025 update, he begins with six hearts, which is the current heart level cap. Unfortunately, there are no heart events available for Caldarus at this time, though more are expected in future updates.
Currently, you can experience a few cutscenes with Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing the magic system and gameplay mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus rescues you from being sealed and reveals his human form before retreating to the Deep Woods to regain his strength. Both scenes are part of the natural story progression.
With the March 2025 update, you can also arrange a date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, allowing you to take any romanceable NPC with four or more hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts with six hearts, you're set to go with him. To attend the festival with Caldarus, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him afterward to confirm your attendance. This will initiate a special cutscene of your date. Spoilers ahead!
During the date at the Summit, Caldarus thanks you for inviting him and discusses the stars and the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. Your conversation delves into existential topics, such as the nature of connections and the role of villains in stories. Caldarus muses about past lives and then, feeling fatigued, invites you to spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from his temple.
