Hyper Light Breaker offers players a wide array of choices, including an extensive selection of characters to explore. These characters, known as Breakers, are pivotal in the battle against the Abyss King, each bringing their own unique flair and playstyle to the game.
Unlocking new characters in Hyper Light Breaker is straightforward compared to many roguelikes, yet the game does not explicitly detail this process. This guide will walk you through how to unlock new Breakers and provide an overview of all characters available in the early access version of the game. As of the initial release, only two characters are unlockable, but we will keep this guide updated as more Breakers become available.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, players must collect Abyss Stones, which are exclusively dropped by defeating Crowns, the game's bosses. Before facing these bosses, you'll need to gather Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. You can locate Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter. Here, you can choose the Breaker you wish to unlock and use your Abyss Stones to make them playable. While there are nine characters in total, currently, only two are unlockable. The method for unlocking the remaining characters is still unknown, but we will update this guide as more information becomes available.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker is equipped with a SyCom, a crucial item that sets their base stats and core perk, defining their unique playstyle. This is the primary factor in choosing one character over another. Below is a detailed look at each character and their playstyles.
Vermillion
Vermillion is the first character players encounter, starting with the Gunslinger SyCom, which offers a balanced stat package geared towards ranged combat. When Vermillion's Rail shots crit, the next shot is guaranteed to crit as well.
For those who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can unlock the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and provides superior defensive and melee stats compared to Gunslinger, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis
Lapis, like Vermillion, begins with a focus on Rail combat, equipped with the Lightweaver SyCom that enhances Rail shot damage after collecting a Battery. However, Lapis distinguishes herself with the Warrior SyCom, which increases her core stats with each upgrade.
Lapis excels with both SyComs, but the Warrior SyCom makes her exceptionally powerful in the long run. With enough upgrades, Lapis can surpass other Breakers in terms of raw stats, becoming a formidable force on the battlefield.
Goro
Goro is another character designed for ranged combat. His default Astrologer SyCom allows him to charge Blade skills faster while shooting, and his unlockable Sniper SyCom increases his critical hit rate.
Goro falls into the category of a ranged glass cannon, boasting higher damage potential than Vermillion and Lapis. Without a defensive SyCom, he can be challenging to play, but mastering Goro can lead to highly effective combat strategies.
