Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O: A Steam Debut for a Fighting Game Legend
Virtua Fighter's First-Ever Steam Appearance
For the first time ever, SEGA is bringing the beloved Virtua Fighter series to Steam with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. This latest remaster builds upon the 18-year legacy of Virtua Fighter 5, promising an enhanced experience for both newcomers and longtime fans. While a precise release date remains under wraps, SEGA confirms a winter launch.
SEGA proudly calls Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O the ultimate remaster of this classic 3D fighter. Key improvements include smooth online play thanks to rollback netcode, stunning 4K graphics with updated high-resolution textures, and a boosted 60fps framerate for incredibly fluid gameplay.
Returning favorites like Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus modes are joined by exciting new additions. Create custom online tournaments and leagues with up to 16 players, or spectate matches to learn new strategies and techniques in the all-new Spectator Mode.
The YouTube trailer has generated overwhelmingly positive feedback, with fans expressing excitement about this latest iteration and its arrival on PC. While many celebrate the remaster, some are still eagerly anticipating Virtua Fighter 6. One humorous comment even suggested, "Once the world is a radioactive wasteland with no internet after WW3, Sega will finally release VF6!"
From VF6 Expectations to R.E.V.O Reality
Earlier this month, an interview with VGC fueled speculation about Virtua Fighter 6. SEGA's global head of transmedia, Justin Scarpone, hinted at a new Virtua Fighter title in development. However, the November 22nd Steam announcement of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O— boasting upgraded visuals, new modes, and rollback netcode—clarified the situation.
A Classic Fighting Game Returns, Reimagined
Initially launched on SEGA Lindbergh arcades in July 2006, and later ported to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007, Virtua Fighter 5 introduced the world to the Fifth World Fighting Tournament and its 17 (later 19) iconic fighters. The series has seen several iterations since its debut:
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R (2008)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (2010)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (2021)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O (2024)
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, with its modern enhancements and updated visuals, is a welcome return for fans of the franchise.
