The creator of the eccentric Zelda character Tingle has revealed his top choice to portray the character in the upcoming live-action film adaptation! Find out who he's hoping to see in the green tights below.
Takaya Imamura's Ideal Tingle Casting
Forget Jason Momoa and Jack Black – Tingle's creator has a very different actor in mind.
The highly anticipated Legend of Zelda movie has fans buzzing with questions. Who will play Link? What will Zelda's attire look like? But perhaps the most intriguing question revolves around Tingle. Will he appear? And if so, who should play him? Takaya Imamura, the creator of the infamous balloon-obsessed character, has shared his perfect casting choice: Masi Oka.
In a recent interview with VGC, Imamura stated, "Masi Oka. You know the TV series Heroes? The Japanese character who goes ‘yatta!’ I’d like him to do it."
Oka, famed for his role as Hiro Nakamura in Heroes, is known for his comedic timing and energetic performances. His experience in diverse projects, ranging from action films like Bullet Train and The Meg to the critically acclaimed Hawaii Five-O, makes him a strong contender. His signature "yatta!" exclamation from Heroes also bears a striking resemblance to Tingle's characteristic poses.
Whether director Wes Ball will heed Imamura's suggestion remains to be seen. Ball previously described the film as a "live-action Miyazaki" movie, suggesting a whimsical tone that could accommodate Tingle's unique personality.
Announced in November 2023, the Legend of Zelda live-action movie is directed by Wes Ball and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad. Ball previously emphasized his commitment to delivering a respectful and serious adaptation of the beloved franchise.
