Hokm's objective is simple: be the first team to reach the target score. The Hâkem (leader) designates the trump suit. Each player receives 13 cards, ranked A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 (highest to lowest within each suit). The Hâkem leads the first trick; players must follow suit if possible. If unable to follow suit, any card can be played, including a trump card. The highest trump card, or the highest card of the led suit (if no trumps are played), wins the trick. The trick winner leads the next. The first team to win seven tricks wins the hand and scores a point.
