2025 Alienware Aurora 16, 16X Gaming Laptops Now Available

Author : Aurora May 17,2025

Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its latest mainstream gaming laptops for 2025, introducing the "Alienware Aurora" series. The 16-inch models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, the more budget-friendly option, comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the higher end, the Alienware Aurora 16X boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, available for $2,299.99. Both models are slated to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, customers can opt for the RTX 5060 graphics in either model, though these are currently on pre-order with no confirmed shipping date due to the RTX 5060's upcoming release.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops diverge from the typical gamer aesthetics seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently released Area-51. These laptops sport a more understated, sleek design reminiscent of standard laptops, with a thin profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, features only white keyboard illumination, much like an Apple MacBook. However, both the Aurora 16 and 16X maintain robust gaming capabilities thanks to their high-performance components and an advanced Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is designed to be thinner and lighter, utilizing a low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. In contrast, the Aurora 16X, with its slightly thicker and heavier build, supports a more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU with a maximum 115W TGP rating.

Compared to the new Alienware Area-51 laptop, which starts at over $3,000, the Aurora series is significantly more affordable. They are also more portable, weighing up to 1.6 pounds less and being up to 30% thinner than a similar-sized Area-51 16-inch model. Given the upward trend in Nvidia GPU prices as reported by Tom's Hardware, price drops for these laptops are unlikely in the near future.

Gamers Should Go with the Alienware Aurora 16X Model

For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X stands out as the superior choice. For just an additional $300, you receive a significantly more powerful laptop with substantial upgrades, making the price premium well worth it. Here's a breakdown of the enhancements:

  • Better Display: 2560x1600 resolution with 240Hz G-Sync vs. 2560x1600 resolution with 120Hz
  • More Powerful CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX vs. Intel Core Ultra 9 270H
  • Higher TGP Rating for RTX 5070: 115W TGP vs. 85W TGP
  • Double the RAM: 64GB vs. 32GB
  • Double the Storage: 2TB vs. 1TB
