Assassin's Creed Shadows' First DLC, "Claws of Awaji," Leaks on Steam
Details regarding the upcoming "Claws of Awaji" expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows have reportedly surfaced via a now-removed Steam update. This first DLC for the highly anticipated title will introduce a new region, weapon type, skills, gear, and substantial additional gameplay.
Assassin's Creed Shadows, set in 16th-century feudal Japan, marks the franchise's debut in East Asia. Players will control dual protagonists, Yasuke (a Samurai) and Naoe (a Shinobi), navigating a turbulent era. The game's development has been fraught with challenges, including criticism of character choices and multiple delays.
The Steam leak, as reported by Insider Gaming, revealed "Claws of Awaji" will add over 10 hours of content. The update also indicated that the DLC, along with a bonus mission, will be included as a pre-order bonus. This leak emerged shortly after Ubisoft announced yet another delay, pushing the game's release from February 14, 2025, to March 20, 2025.
The Delay and Ubisoft's Uncertain Future
The repeated delays of Assassin's Creed Shadows, originally slated for November 15, 2024, have coincided with uncertainty surrounding Ubisoft's future. Recent rumors suggest a potential buyout by Tencent, following a period of underperforming titles such as XDefiant and Star Wars Outlaws. As Ubisoft Quebec works towards the March launch, the company's overall outlook remains clouded.
