Obsidian's Avowed, now available in early access, plunges players into the Living Lands, promising magical encounters, perilous adventures, and surprisingly, romantic possibilities.
Prior to release, Obsidian stated Avowed wouldn't include a dedicated romance system, prioritizing "thoughtful relationships" with companions instead. Avowed Game Director Carrie Patel clarified this stance in an IGN interview: "We are building thoughtful relationships with our companion characters," she stated. "While I personally favor offering romance as an option, it requires significant commitment to ensure authenticity and engaging gameplay. Therefore, it's not a feature in Avowed, but I wouldn't rule it out for future titles."
However, early players and reviewers are reporting at least one companion, Kai, exhibiting romantic interest in the player character. Significant spoilers ahead regarding interactions with Kai. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.
