Matajuegos is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of Atuel, their surrealist documentary game, on PC and Android later this year! The Steam page is now live, allowing players to pre-register. The Google Play listing will follow shortly.
Developed by the Argentinian indie co-op, Matajuegos, Atuel initially launched on itch.io in September 2022, quickly gaining recognition for its unique blend of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking, dreamlike visuals. Its innovative approach earned it the ‘Innovation in Experience Design Award’ at IndieCade 2022, among other accolades. The game has also been showcased at prestigious events like the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

What Awaits You in Atuel?
Atuel immerses you in the stunning, yet climate-change-affected, Atuel River Valley in Argentina. This isn't just a game; it's an experience. You'll shapeshift, becoming various animals and elements within the ecosystem, intimately connecting with the landscape. One moment you're soaring through the sky, the next you're flowing as the river itself.
The game seamlessly integrates real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and locals, providing rich context to the region's history, present state, and uncertain future shaped by climate change. Matajuegos collaborated with the international documentary team, The 12.01 Project, to bring these compelling stories to life.
The game's visuals are truly captivating. Inspired by the Cuyo desert, the landscapes possess an almost otherworldly quality.
Until Android pre-registration opens, visit the Steam page or official website for more information. The mobile release will feature localization in seven new languages and full controller support.
