Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The Battle of Hulao Gate, a pivotal moment in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, presents a significant challenge. This guide will help you overcome this demanding stage, the final chapter of Chapter 2, where your objective is to defeat Dong Zhuo.
Initial Strategy:
Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Securing two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base capture; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon. Once all bases are under your control, assault Hulao Gate.
Facing Dong Zhuo's Forces:
The initial assault on Hulao Gate is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic. This weakens the defenses, allowing you to advance.
Lu Bu's Arrival:
Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Lu Bu is overwhelmingly powerful. Instead, focus on eliminating surrounding officers to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly depletes.
Lu Bu will eventually target your main base and Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will defend, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time constraint. If Liu Bei's forces retreat, prioritize defeating Dong Zhuo before Lu Bu eliminates Yuan Shao.
Defeating Dong Zhuo:
After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads poised to attack and your health replenished, charge towards Dong Zhuo.
Dong Zhuo will use Grand Tactics (fireball attacks). Destroy the initial two catapults to counter his first Grand Tactic. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through soldiers to the catapults.
His second Grand Tactic requires defeating an officer. Proceed to the right-side stairs; be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, now fighting for Dong Zhuo. A duel with Diaochan is advantageous, simplifying the encounter.
After thwarting the second Grand Tactic, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further easing your victory. Defeat Dong Zhuo using standard attacks; a direct duel isn't necessary at this point.
