Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once thrilled by the prospect of an expansive DLC set in space, particularly on the Moon, but unfortunately, this ambitious project never came to fruition. Thanks to the diligent work of blogger and dataminer SirMZK, who sifted through the game's code, we now have a glimpse into what CD Projekt RED had envisioned for this cosmic adventure.
Within the game's files, there are tantalizing references to lunar surface maps, structured zones such as an Exterior Movie Set and a Drug Lab, and even a model of a rover. The Moon location was planned to be vast, possibly spanning a quarter of Night City's size, and designed as an open-world environment. This would have introduced a whole new layer to the gameplay, transporting players from the familiar neon-lit streets to the vast expanse of space.
A highlight of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final game, eagle-eyed players can spot the Crystal Palace in one of the game's endings, where V gazes out of a spaceship window. Moreover, the files uncovered a prototype for a zero-gravity bar connected to a cut quest named "201," which was linked to the Arasaka storyline.
Fans remain optimistic that these intriguing concepts might find new life in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, Orion, which aims to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm whether these ideas will be revisited.
While the Moon DLC remains a distant dream for now, the unearthed details offer a captivating vision of what could have been—a daring leap for Cyberpunk 2077 into unexplored realms, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's iconic cyberpunk style.
