Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with updates to be shared gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.
This is the first official update since May 2024, following the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama (character designer) and Koichi Sugiyama (composer). The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division was also previously announced.
Recent company restructuring and a lack of news had fueled fan concerns about the game's potential cancellation. However, Horii's statement allays these fears, assuring fans that Dragon Quest XII is progressing.
Square Enix recently reported that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, exceeding 2 million units sold.
