Exciting news for fans of the epic sci-fi universe: Dune: Awakening is set to launch on May 20 with a full release, and the best part? No monthly subscription required. Developer Funcom shared this update in their latest Steam blog post dated March 21, detailing the game's business model, system requirements, and plans for post-launch support.
Unlike other MMOs such as Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online, which rely on monthly subscriptions, Dune: Awakening will offer free updates to keep the game fresh and engaging. Funcom promises a long-term commitment to the game, leveraging their experience with live service games like Anarchy Online, which is approaching its 25th anniversary, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive regular updates and expansions.
Pre-Orders and Game Editions
Pre-orders for Dune: Awakening are now live, and the game comes in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. By pre-ordering any edition, players will receive two exclusive in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, a detailed base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.
Opting for the Deluxe or Ultimate edition grants players a 5-day head start, allowing access to the game from May 15. The Deluxe edition includes:
- Season Pass with 4 DLCs, starting with placeables inspired by Arrakis wildlife, including Shai-Hulud.
- Sardaukar Bator Armor, the intimidating gear of the elite Sardaukar military force.
- One copy of the base game.
The Ultimate edition builds on the Deluxe package with additional exclusive content:
- Dusk Rider Sandbike Swatch, a unique color pattern for your sandbike.
