In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer on his peace-seeking journey. This narrative offers significant choices, and regardless of your decisions, companions will often join you in battle.
These companions fight alongside you, but you can temporarily assume control. They are exceptionally powerful, often outperforming the Wanderer, even with upgrades. Here's how to switch characters:
How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Character switching is only possible during battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, your companion is listed as the final option in the pre-battle menu. You can choose to fight alone, but you can't directly select a companion then. Once combat begins, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right corner.
Underneath their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This meter fills as you fight, accelerating with:
- Parrying attacks
- Perfect dodges
- Attacking Officers
- Utilizing Weapon Arts
Most combat actions contribute to filling this meter, albeit at varying speeds.
Once your companion's blue meter is full, a "Change Character" button appears beside it. Press and hold this button for approximately one second to switch. The button is the View button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.
Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Switching characters is strategically best reserved for intense battles. Companions are incredibly strong, and control is typically limited to about a minute. The blue meter, which allowed the switch, gradually depletes, indicating the remaining time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a selection of highly effective combat arts.
The character switch initiates with a powerful attack, so target an enemy before switching. Your companion will also have their own filled Musou and health bars, enabling immediate use of their special attack.
