Unlike previous *Dynasty Warriors* titles where you played as numerous characters, each wielding unique weapons, *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* features a single protagonist who unlocks a diverse arsenal as the game progresses. Here's how to acquire each weapon.
Unlocking Weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Earlier *Dynasty Warriors* games linked weapons to specific characters, each with unique movesets. While *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* allows brief play as other characters, it streamlines the experience by focusing on one character who switches between weapons freely.
Starting with a sword, you’ll earn additional weapons by completing missions and defeating specific enemy officers. Ideally, you’ll collect all nine weapons before finishing Chapter 3, although the exact order may vary. To maximize early weapon acquisition, follow this guide:
- Sword: Your starting weapon.
- Spear: Complete the Battle of Guangyang in Chapter 1 (requires purchase for story progression).
- Gauntlets: Defeat Zhou Cang during the Battle of Guangzong in Chapter 1.
- Wheels: Defeat Zhang Ju in the Suppression of You Province in Chapter 2.
- Podao: Defeat any officer wielding this weapon during the Subjugation of the White Wave Bandits in Chapter 2 (multiple officers carry it).
- Staff: Defeat an officer in a secret treasure chamber with a hidden passage during the Assassination of Dong Zhuo in Chapter 2.
- Twin Pike: Defeat Zhang Liao in the Battle of Hulao Gate in Chapter 2.
- Lance: Defeat an officer wielding the lance on the opposing side during the Battle of Xu Province (your allegiance to Cao Cao or Liu Bei determines the enemy officer).
- Crescent Blade: Unlocked sometime in Chapter 3 after aligning with a specific faction (the exact mission varies due to branching storylines).
Beyond these nine weapons, a final, powerful weapon—the halberd—awaits. To obtain it, defeat Lu Bu at the Battle of Hulao Gate after completing the main campaign. This is a challenging encounter, but the reward is arguably the game's best weapon.
This guide covers all weapon unlocks in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. The game is available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
