GTA 6 Trailer 2: PS5, Xbox Release Confirmed, PC Absent

Author : Nicholas May 20,2025

The release of the Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2, along with a significant update to its official website, has set the gaming community abuzz with excitement and speculation, particularly regarding the launch platforms for the eagerly awaited title set for May 26, 2026.

At the conclusion of Trailer 2, viewers were treated to the release date alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S logos, confirming that these consoles will be part of GTA 6's initial launch. Notably, the trailer was captured on a PS5, specifically mentioned as such, indicating its optimization for this platform. This has sparked discussions about the game's availability on other platforms, particularly PC and the rumored Nintendo Switch 2.

The absence of a PC release announcement in the trailer has led to speculation about Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive's strategy for GTA 6. Historically, Rockstar has opted for a staggered release approach, prioritizing consoles before bringing their titles to PC. This strategy, while consistent with past releases, feels increasingly out of step with current industry trends, especially considering the significant role PCs play in the success of multiplatform games.

In an interview with IGN in February, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted at an eventual PC release for GTA 6, referencing the simultaneous launch strategy used for other titles like Civilization 7 but acknowledging Rockstar's traditional phased approach. Zelnick's comments suggest that while a PC version is in the works, it might not coincide with the console launch, leaving PC gamers to ponder how long they'll have to wait—potentially until late 2026 or even 2027.

The delay in bringing GTA 6 to PC could be seen as a missed opportunity, especially since Zelnick noted that PC sales can account for up to 40% of a game's total revenue, or even more. This underscores the growing importance of the PC market, which Rockstar's current strategy might not fully leverage.

Additionally, the lack of a Nintendo Switch 2 logo in the trailer has tempered hopes for a release on this platform. While the Switch 2's capabilities remain a mystery, its potential to run games like Cyberpunk 2077 has fueled some optimism. However, given that GTA 6 is confirmed for the less powerful Xbox Series S, a Switch 2 release might still be on the cards.

As the gaming community awaits further announcements, the staggered release strategy for GTA 6 remains a topic of debate. Will Rockstar reconsider its approach, or will PC and potential Switch 2 players continue to wait on the sidelines?
