Marvel Rivals Reverses Player Rank Reset Decision
Dev Talk 11 Details Updated Seasonal Rank Approach
Marvel Rivals has reversed its original decision to reset player ranks after receiving widespread criticism from the community. The official Marvel Rivals X (formerly Twitter) account released a new statement about future seasonal rank adjustments, retracting the previously announced plan.
This development follows significant fan backlash against Dev Talk 10, which proposed resetting player ranks downward by four divisions. Players highlighted how demoralizing this would be, especially for those actively climbing the competitive ladder, as the initial plan called for resets every 45 days, or mid-season.
With the newly released Dev Talk 11, Marvel Rivals has officially canceled the mid-season rank reset. Players will now retain the rank and rating they achieved at the end of the season's first half. The full end-of-season reset will still occur, moving players down by six divisions.
Human Torch, The Thing, and Other New Content Arriving as Planned

Despite the reversal on mid-season rank resets, other planned updates are moving forward. The launch of new heroes Human Torch and The Thing is still scheduled, expanding the total hero roster to 39 characters. NetEase Games previously committed to releasing two new playable characters each season, with each season spanning three months.
Reward structures for players reaching Gold rank and higher also remain unchanged. Eligible players will still receive a free Invisible Woman costume following the update. Those ranked Grandmaster and above will be awarded Crests of Honor to commemorate their achievements. Players who finish the season at Gold rank or higher can expect new end-of-season rewards, including an additional free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster+ players.
Balance adjustments were also confirmed for the mid-season update, though specific details on these changes have yet to be released.
Marvel Rivals' Responsiveness to Player Feedback

The community has praised the speed of Marvel Rivals' response to the negative feedback surrounding the planned rank reset. Within hours of releasing the controversial Dev Talk 10, the developers addressed player concerns and published the corrective Dev Talk 11.
Marvel Rivals emphasized its commitment to community-driven development, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
The next Marvel Rivals mid-season update arrives on February 21, 2025. The game is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Visit our Marvel Rivals hub for all the latest news and updates.
