Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie has triumphantly crossed the $500 million mark at the global box office, a testament to its overwhelming success. Directed by Jared Hess and starring Jack Black, this video game adaptation has continued its impressive run into its second weekend, inching closer to the coveted $1 billion milestone. Its domestic earnings have reached $278,864,857, while international audiences have contributed $273,800,000, resulting in a worldwide total of $552,664,857 (via Box Office Mojo).

Prior to its release, the performance of A Minecraft Movie was uncertain, but fans were quick to embrace certain iconic lines from the trailers, particularly those delivered by Jack Black as Steve. Memorable quotes such as “I... am Steve,” “Flint and Steel,” and “Chicken Jockey” have dominated social media. Despite receiving a lukewarm critical reception with a score of 6/10, the film's status as a meme has significantly boosted its box office performance.

The film's theatrical run has been nothing short of groundbreaking. From its opening weekend, moviegoers transformed into enthusiastic fans, leading to viral videos of theaters filled with explosive reactions. Audiences have been seen screaming, throwing popcorn, and in one memorable instance, even bringing a real-life chicken to the screenings. The fervor surrounding this adaptation of Mojang's beloved video game reached such heights that Jack Black himself assisted a theater in preparing for the frenzy.

A Minecraft Movie has now surpassed other notable video game adaptations at the box office, including Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, and Uncharted, with its earnings continuing to climb. The only film it has yet to overtake is Nintendo and Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which concluded its run with a staggering worldwide total of over $1.36 billion (via Box Office Mojo). Although A Minecraft Movie has a long way to go to surpass the Mario film, it has already exceeded its opening weekend figures. If the current momentum holds, it's only a matter of time before Minecraft claims the top spot among video game movie adaptations.
