Monster Hunter Wilds launched with a hefty day-one patch, clocking in at a surprising 18GB. While the download size is substantial, players are strongly encouraged to install it for optimal performance. Initially released for PlayStation 5, the update is expected to roll out to other platforms soon. Unfortunately, Capcom hasn't yet provided official patch notes detailing the changes.
Many speculate that the patch's significant size is due to the inclusion of high-resolution textures. Review copies reportedly lacked these textures, which greatly enhance the game's visual fidelity. This would account for the large file size needed to accommodate these higher-resolution assets.
The update may also incorporate PS5 Pro enhancements, as Monster Hunter Wilds is confirmed to be a PS5 Pro-enhanced title. This would likely improve gameplay performance, especially for PS5 Pro users. Bug fixes are another anticipated component, addressing any remaining issues before players dive in.
While termed a day-one patch, pre-order players may be able to download it before the official release date. Those with slower internet connections should prioritize downloading the patch before February 28th to ensure a smooth launch experience.
It's important to note that this update (version 1.000.020) is primarily focused on performance and bug fixes, not new content. Players seeking additional content will need to look towards Monster Hunter Wilds’ post-launch DLC. Three paid DLC packs are planned, along with two free content updates. The first free update, arriving in spring, will introduce Mizutsune and event quests, with further additions, including new monsters and missions, planned for summer.
Monster Hunter Wilds releases on PC and consoles February 28th.
