We've been anticipating the specs for Nintendo's rumored Switch upgrade for years. Now that the details are finally out, the reality exceeds many expectations, including 120fps support and up to 4K resolution when docked.
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, Nintendo unveiled several key features of the new console. To begin, the Switch 2 features a larger 7.9-inch built-in screen compared to the original model. It maintains the same thickness (13.9mm) but packs roughly double the pixel density, supporting a 1080p handheld display at up to 120fps. The screen is LCD-based and supports HDR. When docked, the system can output up to 4K resolution with HDR.
The new Joy-Con 2 controllers attach magnetically and are released by a button on the back. The side SL and SR buttons are larger, making horizontal gameplay more comfortable, and both analog sticks have been enlarged. This segment also officially confirmed mouse control support via the Joy-Con controllers.
The handheld Switch 2 includes a built-in microphone with noise cancellation and 3D audio for supported games. Its stand is larger and more robust than the original Switch's and can be adjusted to various angles. A top USB port allows for external camera connectivity or charging the system in tabletop mode.
Finally, we learned that the Nintendo Switch 2 comes with 256GB of internal storage.
