Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.
Delays Leading to Cancellation
The physical release faced multiple delays. Initially slated for March 2023, it was postponed to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025 before ultimately being canceled. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were affected, with customers receiving notifications of the repeated delays.
This cancellation is a significant disappointment for European fans, as it prevents the official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. While the game is available digitally, obtaining a physical copy now requires importing from regions outside Europe, such as the US.
Omori, an RPG about a young boy named Sunny grappling with trauma, alternates between the real world and his dream world where he becomes Omori. Initially released on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving merchandise from the game's developer, OMOCAT.
