The Burning Monolith: Conquering Path of Exile 2's Endgame Pinnacle Boss

The Burning Monolith, a unique map location in Path of Exile 2's Atlas of Worlds, resembles a Realmgate and is found near the starting area of your mapping journey. Accessing it, however, presents a significant challenge.

Unlocking the Burning Monolith

The Burning Monolith houses the Arbiter of Ash, the game's most formidable pinnacle boss. Your first attempt to activate the Monolith's door initiates "The Pinnacle of Flame" quest, comprising three sub-quests: Ezomyte Infiltration (Iron Citadel), Faridun Foray (Copper Citadel), and Vaal Incursion (Stone Citadel). Completing these Citadels yields three Crisis Fragments, essential for activating the Arbiter of Ash encounter. Combine the fragments at the Monolith's altar to begin the fight. Ensure your character build is optimized; the Arbiter of Ash boasts devastating attacks and immense health.

Locating the Elusive Citadels

Path of Exile 2 features three Citadels – Iron, Copper, and Stone – each guarded by a unique map boss. Defeating these bosses grants the corresponding Crisis Fragment. The primary difficulty lies in discovering their location.

Citadel Challenges

Citadels are one-time attempts. Their placement on the randomly generated Atlas is unpredictable. Community strategies, while not guaranteed, include:

  1. Directional Progression: Choose a direction on the Atlas and explore until you locate a Citadel. Unlocking Towers provides a broader map view.
  2. Corruption Tracking: Focus on corrupted nodes at the Atlas's edges. Clear these nodes, unlock nearby Towers, and repeat. This strategy complements the first.
  3. Clustered Appearance: Citadels often appear in groups. Finding one increases the likelihood of discovering others nearby.

Citadel hunting is a late-game activity, best undertaken with a powerful build.

Alternative Acquisition

Crisis Fragments, the reward for Citadel completion, can be purchased via the trading website or Currency Exchange. However, their rarity often commands a high price.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview of navigating the Burning Monolith and acquiring the necessary Crisis Fragments in Path of Exile 2. Remember to prepare thoroughly before facing the Arbiter of Ash.
