Fields of Mistria, by NPC Studio, is celebrated for its well-written characters, engaging dialogue, and thoughtfully crafted romance storylines. But can you actually *date* the romance options in the game?
Can You Date in Fields of Mistria?
The short answer is: not yet, not in the traditional sense. However, having invested over 100 hours in pursuing March's affection (for example), I can confirm that the existing romance system is incredibly rewarding and well worth the $13.99 Steam price tag.
The November 2024 update significantly enhanced the romance system, raising the relationship level cap from four hearts to six, and adding new heart events for each romanceable NPC. These events, featuring playable cutscenes, unlock at two, four, and six hearts, with plans for eight- and ten-heart events in future updates. However, no firm dates have been announced beyond the upcoming March 2025 update, which *won't* include a higher heart cap or additional heart events.

While the pause in developing the dating aspect might disappoint some, the current romance system is exceptionally strong. The dialogue is rich and realistic, often delightfully flirty. Even the early heart events, though potentially interpretable as platonic, are ambiguous enough to foster romantic feelings, and the relationships deepen satisfyingly with each progression.
The recent update also introduced the Shooting Star Festival, a summer event allowing you to initiate a date-like experience with any of the game's ten romance options (requiring four hearts). Currently, you can also share a stargazing evening with Caldarus, though this doesn't trigger a date at the Summit as it does with others. This might change with the March 2025 update, which is slated to unlock Caldarus's full romance questline.
While full-fledged dating isn't yet implemented in *Fields of Mistria*, the existing romance mechanics provide a deeply engaging and rewarding experience until the feature's arrival.
