Many Pokémon GO players immediately ask about the price of new in-game items. The newly announced Pokémon GO Tour Pass, however, is a surprising free offering – but what does it entail?
What is the Pokémon GO Tour Pass?
Introduced with the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova global event, the Tour Pass is a system of completing tasks to earn Tour Points. These points unlock rewards, boost your rank, and enhance event bonuses throughout the Unova event.
The standard Tour Pass is free and automatically granted to players upon the event's start (February 24th, 10 AM local time). A paid "Tour Pass Deluxe" version ($14.99 USD or equivalent) is also available, offering an immediate Victini encounter, superior rewards, and faster progression.
Earning and Using Tour Points
Accumulated Tour Points unlock rewards, increase your rank within the Tour Pass tiers, and unlock further benefits. Higher ranks yield more rewards (Pokémon encounters, Candy, Poké Balls, etc.). Increased rank also boosts Catch XP bonuses during the event:
- Tier 2: 1.5x Catch XP
- Tier 3: 2x Catch XP
- Tier 4: 3x Catch XP
Niantic has yet to fully detail all rewards; expect further announcements. The free Pass's highest tier offers a Zorua encounter with a unique background. The Deluxe Pass culminates in a "Lucky Trinket."
