The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be entering its competitive circuit in the near future. Dive into this article to discover the future of Pokémon TCG Pocket in the competitive scene and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
As of now, there are no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in Pokémon's competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they are always exploring new titles to add to the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate agenda.
Brown humorously mentioned "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's April Fool's parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he emphasized, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
Although The Pokémon Company has not officially stated the reasons, fans have speculated that Pokémon TCG Pocket's exclusion from the competitive scene might be due to its early stage of development. Launched in October 2024, the game has only been around for four months and has released two sets so far.
While the game does include competitive features from the start, players have noted ongoing balancing issues and have requested adjustments from the developers. Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed as a simplified, beginner-friendly version of the original Pokémon card game, which may not align well with a competitive environment.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to host a variety of events for fans, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These will all be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
