Sony's anticipated February PlayStation State of Play broadcast is rumored to air next week, according to leaker NateTheHate, known for accurately predicting the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal date. Speculation is rife regarding the event's content, focusing on several potential first-party game showcases.
Several 2025 release titles are prime candidates. Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei could receive a gameplay reveal and release date announcement. Bungie's Marathon, a PvP extraction shooter, might also appear, particularly if playtesting plans are still on track for this year. Haven Studios' debut title, Fairgames, and Naughty Dog's new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, are also possibilities. A new trailer for Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is another strong contender, given its 2025 release window.
However, recently canceled live-service titles from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games (reportedly a God of War live-service game) won't feature. Guerrilla Games' live-service Horizon project, however, reportedly survived the cuts and could see its first official unveiling.
A poll asks which game viewers anticipate most: Ghost of Yotei, Marathon, Death Stranding 2, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Marvel's Wolverine, Fairgames, the Horizon multiplayer live-service project, Physint, and Phantom Blade Zero.
Regarding third-party announcements, Kojima Productions' Physint (stealth-action exclusive) might be too early for a major reveal, while Phantom Blade Zero (hack-and-slash action RPG from S-Game) is a more likely candidate.
Microsoft's presence is also noteworthy. A release date for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5 is possible, and the State of Play could even mark the long-awaited announcement of Halo on PlayStation.
Looking back at last year's State of Play provides further insight. It featured titles like Death Stranding 2, Physint, Rise of the Ronin, the Until Dawn remaster, Stellar Blade, Dragon's Dogma 2, Sonic x Shadow Generations, various Silent Hill projects, Ken Levine's Judas, Foamstars, and Helldivers 2. This variety suggests a similarly diverse lineup for this year's event.
