In a surprising turn of events, Zynga has announced the full shutdown of Star Wars Hunters, just nine months after its initial release. Originally launched in June 2024 for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, the free-to-play team-based battle arena game developed by NaturalMotion is set to go offline by October 1, 2025. The announcement also confirms the cancellation of the previously planned PC release on Steam, with the game now removed from the Steam store entirely.
IGN’s Star Wars: Hunters review awarded the game a 7/10, describing it as “a party at the Death Star: Impressive for a bit, but probably not a place you’ll want to hang around for too long.” That assessment now appears eerily accurate. In a message to the community, Zynga stated the final content update would arrive on April 15, 2025, after which the game will remain playable until servers officially go dark on October 1, 2025.
Final Season and Farewell Updates
To give players more time to enjoy the experience, Zynga has extended Season 5 by three weeks, launching on March 25. This extension includes re-run events, returning shop bundles, and an expanded Ranked Season—giving aspiring hunters one last shot at reaching Kyber 1 rank.
The final update, arriving April 15, will be free for all players and will introduce Tuya as a new Support Hunter. She’ll be available to everyone at no cost, alongside additional in-game content. While in-game purchases will be disabled after this date, all core game modes and battlefields will continue to rotate, and a final Ranked Mode leaderboard will remain active until shutdown day.
The End of a Cross-Platform Vision
The cancellation of the Steam version marks a significant shift in Zynga’s strategy. Once heralded as a milestone—Zynga’s first console and PC-published title—the dream of expanding Star Wars Hunters beyond mobile and Switch has been quietly abandoned. In November, Yaron Leyvan, Zynga’s Executive Vice President of Games, expressed excitement about bringing the game to PC, calling it a “milestone” for the company. That vision, however, will not come to pass.
“We understand this news may be disappointing and want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly,” Zynga shared. “Your passion and dedication to the game and its community have meant the world to us, and we are committed to providing visibility and updates throughout the transition process.”
What’s Next for Star Wars Games?
While Star Wars Hunters prepares for its final bow, the Star Wars gaming universe remains active. Upcoming titles include Respawn Entertainment’s third installment in the Star Wars Jedi series and a turn-based tactics game from Bit Reactor, both expected to be revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2025. For fans of galactic combat and lore, the saga continues—just not in Vespaara.
Players are encouraged to make the most of the remaining months, climb the final leaderboards, and enjoy the last content drop before Star Wars Hunters fades into the galaxy’s history. [ttpp]
