Stardew Valley's Creator, Eric Barone ("ConcernedApe"), Guarantees Free DLC and Updates Forever
Eric Barone, the mastermind behind the beloved farming RPG Stardew Valley, has made a heartfelt pledge to his dedicated fanbase: all future updates and downloadable content (DLC) will remain perpetually free.
Barone recently addressed fans on Twitter (now X), providing an update on the progress of various ports and upcoming PC updates. He acknowledged the extended development time, assuring fans that work continues daily, particularly on the mobile port. He promised a formal announcement once concrete details, such as release dates, become available.
In response to a fan's comment expressing contentment with free additions, Barone made a powerful statement: "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." This emphatic declaration settles any concerns about future monetization of the game's content.
Released in 2016, Stardew Valley has consistently received significant updates, enhancing gameplay and introducing fresh content. The recent 1.6.9 update is a prime example, boasting new festivals, multiple pet options, expanded home renovations, new outfits, enriched late-game content, and numerous quality-of-life improvements.
Barone's commitment may extend beyond Stardew Valley. He's currently developing Haunted Chocolatier, though details remain scarce.
This unwavering dedication from the sole developer showcases profound respect and empathy for the gaming community. His declaration, including the challenge to "Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath," solidifies his promise of continued free content for this seven-year-old game, ensuring players can enjoy new and engaging experiences without additional cost.
