The Bloodborne community's long-held desire for a remastered edition of the FromSoftware classic has reached fever pitch thanks to recent Instagram activity.
FromSoftware and PlayStation Fuel Bloodborne Remaster Hype
A Beloved Game Deserving a Modern Update
Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, remains a fan favorite. Many players eagerly anticipate experiencing Yharnam's gothic streets on modern consoles. While no official announcement has been made, recent Instagram posts from FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia have ignited speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three evocative images featuring the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne," showcasing Djura, the Hunter exploring Yharnam, and the Charnel Lane graveyards. While potentially just a nostalgic gesture, Bloodborne fans on platforms like Twitter (X) are meticulously analyzing these images for clues. This follows a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17th, asking fans to share their favorite locations in Yharnam, further fueling the anticipation. Many comments expressed a strong desire for a Bloodborne return to modern platforms, including PC.
The Hunt for a Modern Bloodborne Continues
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne boasts a dedicated following and widespread critical acclaim, often cited among the greatest video games ever created. Yet, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
The 2020 Demon's Souls remake, a game originally released in 2009, serves as a precedent for hope, but also a source of concern. The lengthy wait for the Demon's Souls remake has fans worried about a similar delay for Bloodborne. As the game approaches its tenth anniversary, the demand for a remastered version is stronger than ever.
Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in interviews with Eurogamer and IGN earlier this year, hinted at the potential benefits of a remaster, emphasizing the improved accessibility for a wider audience on modern hardware. However, he also stressed that FromSoftware doesn't own the IP, leaving the final decision firmly in Sony's hands.
While Miyazaki's comments offer a spark of optimism, the ultimate fate of a Bloodborne remaster rests with Sony. Unlike Elden Ring, which FromSoftware fully publishes, Bloodborne's rights are held by Sony. This lack of control over the IP limits FromSoftware's ability to comment further.
The passionate Bloodborne fanbase eagerly awaits a remaster. Despite its critical success and sales figures, Sony hasn't yet broadened its availability beyond the PS4. Whether the current speculation translates into reality remains to be seen.
