PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are arguably better experienced with a controller. Games emphasizing fast-paced action, reflex-based movement, or melee combat often lend themselves well to gamepad input. This is especially true for titles originating on consoles before making their way to PC.
While most PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, several recent and upcoming titles seem primed for controller use. The end of 2024 saw several high-profile releases (Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force), most of which are arguably better with keyboard and mouse. However, the remastered Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 might be slightly better with a gamepad.
Several upcoming PC games are anticipated to benefit from controller support:
- Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port reminiscent of Monster Hunter, likely best suited for controller play.
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently performs better with gamepads, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the predecessor's superior controller experience on PC, Rebirth's similar combat system suggests a similar preference.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A typical PS5-to-PC port, leaning towards controller-first gameplay, although keyboard and mouse might still be viable.
A 2024 Soulslike game has also been included in this list. See the link below for details.
