King of Crabs - Invasion launches on iOS and Android on May 30th
The latest installment brings a real-time strategy (RTS) twist to the King of Crabs franchise
Dominate opponents with specialized crab armies featuring unique combat roles
Our longtime readers might remember our 2019 review of the quirky battle royale King of Crabs. While our reviewer found it somewhat lacking, developer Robot Squid is revisiting the crustacean combat concept with King of Crabs - Invasion - this time venturing into RTS territory.
Ditching the battle royale format, King of Crabs - Invasion adopts mechanics similar to Age of War, placing players on opposing sides of a linear battlefield. Strategic unit deployment becomes key as you balance offense and defense against your opponent.
The game offers diverse crab units - from basic hordes to artillery-carrying crabs and heavily armored melee fighters. However, varying battlefield conditions and environmental obstacles add layers of complexity to what initially seems like simple crab warfare.

King of Crabs - Invasion successfully translates the original game's chaotic crustacean combat into the RTS genre. The ridiculous premise of warring crabs naturally lends itself to this simplified but entertaining strategy format.
That said, considering our initial criticism of the first game's shallow mechanics, concerns arise about whether the novelty of crab-based RTS will sustain long-term engagement. Only time will tell - players can judge for themselves when the game arrives on May 30th.
