Sony's Return to Handheld Gaming
Bloomberg reported on November 25th that Sony is creating a portable console allowing players to enjoy PlayStation 5 games on the go. This move is a direct response to Nintendo's dominance in the handheld market (from the Game Boy to the Switch) and Microsoft's emerging interest in the sector.
The new handheld is expected to improve upon the PlayStation Portal, launched last year. While the Portal offered PS5 game streaming, its reception was mixed. A device capable of native PS5 game play would significantly broaden Sony's appeal, particularly given recent PS5 price increases.
Sony's history with handhelds includes the popular PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the well-received PS Vita. However, neither could challenge Nintendo's supremacy. Now, Sony aims to change that.
