Cyberpunk 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port Updates
Featuring Multiple Cities
Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, known as Project Orion, is set to elevate the gaming experience by introducing a new location alongside the beloved Night City. During the Digital Dragons 2025 event on May 20, R. Talsorian Games founder and game designer Mike Pondsmith shared exciting updates about the sequel.
Although Pondsmith is not as intricately involved in the development of the new game as he was with 2077, he remains closely connected, offering insights and feedback. He shared, "I see the scripts. Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had like, ‘this is the new Cyberware, what do you think?’"
He also revealed that a new city, distinct from Night City, is in the works. "I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’," Pondsmith explained.
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has also been busy, posting new job listings for Cyberpunk 2 earlier this year. One notable position is for the Lead Encounter Designer, whose role is to "help formulate solutions for and help create memorable gameplay encounters that will thrill and excite our players."
This job listing hints at groundbreaking features, with one responsibility being to "Work in close collaboration with the systems design team to create the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date."
While details about Project Orion are still emerging, the involvement of Pondsmith and CDPR's active recruitment efforts suggest that Cyberpunk 2 will continue the legacy of its predecessor's rich world-building and complex narrative.
New Footage for Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port
In other exciting news, CDPR has released new footage showcasing the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 port, highlighting the studio's efforts to optimize the game for Nintendo's upcoming handheld console. On CDPR’s website, they have uploaded several B-roll videos totaling around 37 minutes of gameplay on the Switch 2.
Despite early reports from Nintendo Switch 2 showcase events in New York and Paris suggesting performance issues, including frame drops, CDPR Engineer Tim Green remains optimistic. In an interview with Game File on April 25, Green stated, "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result."
Mark your calendars for June 5, 2025, when Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will launch on Switch 2.
