Renewed Bloodborne Speculation Following PlayStation's 30th Anniversary
PlayStation's 30th-anniversary celebration culminated with a trailer featuring the highly popular PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, accompanied by the caption, "It's about persistence." While the video showcased numerous titles, the inclusion of Bloodborne ignited fervent fan speculation regarding a potential sequel or remastered version.
The trailer, set to a unique arrangement of The Cranberries' "Dreams," highlighted PlayStation's iconic games, including Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Helldivers 2, each with a thematic caption. However, Bloodborne's placement and caption fueled rumors of an upcoming release. This isn't the first instance of such speculation; a previous post by PlayStation Italia on Instagram featuring Bloodborne locations similarly generated excitement.
While the trailer's ending might simply acknowledge Bloodborne's notorious difficulty, requiring player persistence, the ambiguity has fueled anticipation.
PS5 Update: Customizable UI
Sony released a PS5 update to commemorate its anniversary, offering a limited-time PS1 boot-up sequence and customizable themes inspired by past consoles. This includes themes spanning from PS1 to PS4, allowing users to personalize their home screen's appearance and sound effects. The positive reception to the retro UI, particularly the return of the PS4 interface, has led to requests for its permanence and speculation about future UI customization options on PS5.
Sony's Handheld Console Plans
Adding to the wave of speculation, Digital Foundry corroborated Bloomberg's report on Sony's development of a handheld console for PS5 games. While still in its early stages, this move signals Sony's intention to compete in the portable gaming market currently dominated by Nintendo Switch. The discussion also highlighted the strategic logic of both Microsoft and Sony entering this space alongside the rise of mobile gaming.
Although Microsoft has openly acknowledged its interest, Sony remains tight-lipped. The development of these handheld devices from both companies is expected to take time, requiring the creation of affordable yet graphically superior consoles to challenge Nintendo's dominance. Meanwhile, Nintendo's President, Shuntaro Furukawa, announced plans to reveal more information about the Nintendo Switch's successor within the current fiscal year.
